C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein synthesized in the liver in respond to inflammation and its levels in bloodstream rise significantly in the first 6-8 hours from the inflammation occurrence. Normally blood level does not exceed 5mg/l in a healthy person.

CRP test is a reliable test to especially indicate bacterial inflammation in the body, though it has also other indications.

The blood sample is taken by pricking the finger with the lancet.

Results

GP evaluates the results and, in case of high values, prescribes the treatment with e.g. antibiotics. The reliability and speed of this test makes further blood tests unnecessary and the treatment may start in the shortest possible time The usage of antibiotics is limited to justified cases only, preventing in that way the development of antibiotics resistance.

CRP test costs are not excluded from your obligatory deductible.
